Dozens of young women in Ottawa for the annual Daughters of the Vote summit literally turned their backs to Justin Trudeau today in the House of Commons.
As CBC explains, the annual event is organized by Equal Voice Canada and features young women representing every riding in Canada.
While all recognized party leaders addressed the women, it was clear the delegates were unhappy with Trudeau’s recent treatment of Jody Wilson-Raybould and Jane Philpott who were kicked out of caucus yesterday.
When it was Trudeau’s turn to speak, dozens of delegates rose and deliberately turned their back to him.
The prime minister did address the recent controversy in his speech saying, “I know nobody in here wants to have to pick who to believe between Jody Wilson-Raybould and Chrystia Freeland.”
“There are always going to be a range of perspectives that we need to listen to.”
He then defended his actions stating, “Diversity only works if there is trust… In a team, when trust is broken we have to find way to move forward.”
