A veteran’s rights advocate by the name of Sean Bruyea of Ottawa, is filing a lawsuit against the Minister of Veterans Affairs for defamation.
Two weeks prior, Seamus O’Regan, the Minister of Veteran Affairs wrote a column in which he “rebutted” Bruyea on the Liberal’s decision to offer veterans either pensions or lump sums for payment of continuous injuries.
According to Bruyea, “I’m not suing the minister because of his opinion… I’m suing him because he personally defamed me,” Bruyea said. “I’m prepared for a public debate about the facts with the minister.”
According to Bruyea, the current atmosphere concerning Canadian veterans is grossly unfair, and Bruyea seeks widespread change.
Bruyea’s lawsuit follows a number other disputes between Canadian veterans and government officials in recent times, with some veterans groups taking the government to the Supreme Court.
