Peter Mueller, the NDP candidate for Cypress-Medicine Hat has a history of controversial opinions, including seemingly encouraging illegal immigration.
In a guest column in a local paper, he defended terrorist Omar Khadr and his payout by the Trudeau Liberals.
Speaking of Khadr, Mueller wrote “He was 15, raised in the home of a domineering father and surrounded by ‘jihadist’ sympathizers; his sisters proclaimed their willingness to serve as suicide bombers, his brothers attended guerrilla training camps. Did he have a choice? He did not. This was clearly a case of ‘the sins of the father being visited upon the children.’”
He then suggests that Omar Khadr never threw the grenade that killed army medic Christopher Speer and questions the legitimacy of Khadr’s confession.
“I don’t know the worth of 10 years lived under torture and the absence of hope. Maybe $10.5 million? Pragmatism sometimes comes at a cost. Having principles has its dividends,” the new NDP candidate wrote.
Additionally, last year on Facebook, Mueller openly mocked Canada’s
border crisis. He posted a meme of a woman wearing a shirt that
criticizes US Presidents with lines such as “Clinton made me want
to be faithful” and “Bush made me want to be smarter.” The
shirt ends with “Trump makes me want to be Canadian”.
Mueller’s caption to the photo reads, “Come join us. Our borders are still open”.
