A new viral video captured the moment a plane barely collided with a car near Highway 404 in Markham, Ontario.
Instagram user Jayarianne posted the video with the caption, “So this happened today.”
Just seconds into the clip, a plane swoops down in front of the car, nearly dodging catastrophe. The plane then slammed into a fence and came to a stop in a ditch on the other side of the roadway.
Police told CTV News that a male instructor and a female student were in the plane at the time, but escaped injury.
“The fact that that aircraft wasn’t involved in a collision with a vehicle coming through here is quite amazing,” Sgt. Dave Mitchell said.
The Transportation Safety Board said the privately-owned plane was doing a training manoeuvre known as “a touch-and-go” when it went down.
“So you come into land and you basically do a landing and you slow down and accelerate and then you do a go, another takeoff,” Ewan Tasker, the regional manager of air investigations at the Transportation Safety Board of Canada said, describing the move. “It’s an easy way to get a bunch of takeoffs and landings in if you are doing some training. A standard manoeuvre… but in this case, something went wrong.”
The investigation is still ongoing and the TSB is trying to determine why the aircraft didn’t gain altitude after takeoff.
