Fidel Castro’s grandson was documenting his luxurious life on Instagram, but was forced to privatize his account after negative comments started to pour in.
As The Daily Mail reports, media outlets in Florida covering the Cuban community came across Tony Castro’s social media account before the Communist island celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution, which was led by his grandfather.
Media outlets such as the Miami Herald got hold of some photos the benefactor of communist rule was posting. They included multiple travel photos, sunbathing on a yacht, and a picture of him behind the wheel of a BMW.
The photos were met with backlash on Twitter. One user, Juan Gallardo, wrote that Cuba’s current president Miguel Diaz-Canel is standing there like a ‘mannequin’ while people “are suffering from repression, hunger, lies, humiliations and miseries. Who is paying for all of Tony Castro’s… luxuries, riches and comfort?”
Justicia Divina commented, “Tony Castro’s son is displaying posts that aren’t precisely historic but are luxurious. The people are stuck in slavery and hunger.”
“I’m sure the struggling citizens of Cuba just love this,” said another.
We can only imagine comments on his Instagram were far less tame. What do you think? Leave a comment below.
