Dollar store giant Dollarama has recalled over 100,000 dolls that could pose a serious hazard to children.
Health Canada warns that the Montoy-branded Little Princess Doll contains levels of phthalates that exceed the allowable limit and may pose a chemical hazard.
They state that the product comes in six different variations with the same identification code. The item number 08-3066065 and UPC 667888315611 can be found on the lower back part of the packaging.
The six variations of the doll are listed as:
- Brown hair, yellow dress
- Blonde hair, blue and pink dress
- Red hair, blue dress with yellow outline
- Red hair, pink dress
- Black hair, purple and pink dress
- Blonde hair, blue and orange dress
Health Canada goes on to explain that “certain phthalates, including DEHP, may cause reproductive and developmental abnormalities in young children when soft vinyl products containing phthalates are sucked or chewed for extended periods.”
The dolls look like they’re supposed to resemble Disney princesses without actually having the Disney branding.
As of December 21, Dollarama said they have not received any reports of injuries related to the use of the doll.
