A golf course in Smiths Falls is going to be relaunching this spring as “Canada’s first cannabis-themed golf and entertainment destination” with live music and a drive-in movie theatre added down the line.
Rolling Greens is scheduled for a soft launch on April 20, otherwise known as 420, the universally-recognized cannabis holiday.
According to Global News, Gordon Weiske purchased the Lombard Glen Golf and Country Club a few months ago with the intention to make it “more than just a golf course”.
“We’ll be evolving into an entertainment destination and this will help the area of Smiths Falls on the tourist side as well,” he said. “I think a lot of people, while they’re focusing on being growers or sellers, they’re forgetting the other big business sectors, which is tourism and entertainment.”
“Enjoying cannabis at a golf course is not a new invention,” Weiske explained. He plans to expand the activities available to customers by including a drive-in movie theatre, mini put, frisbee golf and live music.
Choosing Smiths Falls as a location is logical as Canopy Growth Corporation is also in the area and is well-known for operating out of a former chocolate factory.
“It’s strategic because Smiths Falls is becoming the cannabis capital of Canada,” Weiske said.
So what will the rules be for smoking?
Speaking to the Toronto Sun, Weiske said people can “enjoy cannabis wherever smoking is allowed”. But they will still be obeying all the federal and provincial laws and it will be BYOB (bring your own bud).
