One of the suspects wanted for the alleged assault on a 74-year-old senior citizen last month has turned himself in to Ottawa police and the other has been arrested.
According to the Ottawa Citizen, Yusuf Hussein and Abdirahman Sahal, both 18, have been charged after a brutal assault on Morty White, a senior citizen.
On Monday Sahal was charged with assault, aggravated assault and two breaches of probation.
White told the paper he “could have died” after an attack that left him with a broken nose, black eyes, bruises and swelling on the back of his head, a fractured pelvis, and broken ribs.
The attack occurred when he left a bank machine on Montreal Road at around 9 am on December 8, but was perplexed as to the movie as nothing was stolen from him.
Witnesses who saw the attack say two men continued to beat him as he lay on the edge of the parking lot. Luckily, a good Samaritan came to his rescue.
White says he lost consciousness, but remembers waking up in the ambulance. After spending some time in the hospital he was able to recover enough to go to Mexico for an extended vacation.
“I don’t think I was targeted. I just happened to be in the wrong place at the right time,” White said.
Police have called the attack random.
