A Canadian citizen named Olajide Ogunye is suing the Canadian government for a recent blunder by the Canadian Border Services Agency(CBSA).
The incident occurred when Ogunye was mistaken to be an illegal immigrant who was known to police and was subsequently detained for the mishap.
Olajide Ogunye – Detained And Misidentified
Olajide was detained in 2016 while he was driving, and arrested under the suspicions of being Oluwafemi Johnson, an illegal immigrant who was deported from Canada in the 1990s.
According to recent reports, although Ogunye had shown the police his Canadian citizenship card, the misstep continued, and he was imprisoned by the CBSA.
Ogunye was released eight months later, and although the incident brought detriment to Ogunye’s life, he is still a proud Canadian.
To prevent further misidentifications, the CBSA needs to take extra precautions to ensure that such events do not reoccur.
